A couple people I don't know IRL started following me, so I thought maybe I should fill this part out. I'm Zingbrit, a college student in Minnesota. I enjoy music, reading, the Internet, and studying Physics. I blog things that I find funny or visually appealing.
Does it bother anyone else that parsec is a unit of length, not a unit of time?
Parsecs has do do with the fact that Han navigated very near/through The Maw, a black hole-heavy region of space (for a total of 11.5 parsecs) instead of taking the longer way around (for a total of about 18 parsecs). Basically, he’s bragging about how close to danger he got.
I’ve also heard G.L. give some other lame excuse for why parsec was used as a unit of time rather than length. I think that when they were making the movie, someone was like “Hey, ‘parsec’ is a nice spacey sounding word, let’s use that in some dialogue.” And then Star Wars happened.
